Schmitt, Apollo 17 Lunar Module Pilot, uses an adjustable sampling scoop to collect lunar samples at Station 5 during the mission’s second extravehicular activity (EVA-2) in the Taurus-Littrow Valley on December 12, 1972. The photograph was taken by Commander Eugene A. Cernan with a 70mm Hasselblad camera fitted with a 60mm lens. A gnomon is visible on the rock in the foreground.
