The first space robots, space probes and satellites allowed humanity to be preceded in many extraterrestrial environments. First in the upper layers of the atmosphere, then in orbit, later on the Moon, and on interplanetary trajectories to observe planets, the Sun, comets, or asteroids. Their forms and functionalities have continually evolved.
These probes and satellites are condensed expressions of the most advanced technologies that humanity is capable of mastering at the time of their launch. Their “design” obeys no other requirement than optimal functionality combined with minimal size and maximum robustness in order to withstand the extreme conditions of space.
